Harefield Utd Red U11 (5) v (3) Boyne Hill Panthers

by Scott Trotman

The Reds finished the regular season off with a home match against Boyne Hill Panthers, and ended it with a deserved win.

Boyne Hill (in green) kicked off, but it was the hosts who soon found their stride, playing fine football, with plenty of passing and movement - and after 3 minutes, it was no surprise when they went one up.

A cross came in from Max on the left, and Henry, unmarked at the far post, headed it straight back across the keeper into the far left hand corner of the net (1-0).

The Hares remained on top for the next few minutes, and on nine minutes, they nearly doubled their lead.

The Panthers keeper kicked it straight to Jonny, who quickly picked his spot, and sent the ball curling towards the top right corner..............................only for the keeper to atone for his error with one of the saves of the season - tipping it away with a flying save high to his left.

Boyne Hill then started to get their own game going, and by the 21st minute they were level.

A through ball breached the Hares' defence, and the Panthers' striker was allowed through to poke the ball past Finlay from close range (1-1).

The parity didn't last long though, as 3 minutes later we regained the lead.

The ball came in again from the left , this time from Zein, and Raghav was on hand to nod in from three yards (2-1).

Soon it was 3-1, with a well deserved goal by Tommy, who was having his best game to date.

There didn't seem much on when the ball came to him 20 yards out, but he looked up and sent a dipping shot over the keeper's head, and into the right hand stanchion (3-1).

The Reds then comfortably saw out the rest of the half to go in with the two goal advantage.

The second half was more fragmented than the first, with both sides generally huffing and puffing, instead of getting it down and playing.

36 minutes in, it was the visitors who struck first. Their right winger was not closed down properly, and he was allowed to get a cross in, which was easily dispatched at the far post (3-2).

Harefield though scored their 4th shortly afterwards when Alfie was played into the left hand side of the box. His initial shot was kept out with a good sliding block from the defender, but it came straight back to him, and he lashed it into the far right hand corner (4-2).

Things then remained fairly tight for the next 10-12 minutes or so, until the Panthers reduced the deficit again to set up a potentially close finish, when no.9 found space on the right and fired high into the same side of the goal (4-3).

The Hares came bouncing back though, and 2 minutes from time they sealed the win, when good work by Jonny found Max, who swept it goal-bound for Raghav to nip in before the keeper, and knock it past him (5-3).

MoM was deservedly given to Tommy for a strong, battling performance, rounded off by a well taken goal.
